Satin Wave Beauty Salon and Barber Shop is owned and operated by Ronald Sherrill. Satin Wave was established in the mid 1950s by Ronald’s uncle, James Flippin, who was known as “Flip." The first shop was located on Teutonia and North Ave. It was a full service shop specializing in the popular “processing” or
“conk” hairstyles.

Urban renewal forced Flip to relocate in 1972. He formed
a partnership with several businessmen and started a mini mall known as the Masterpiece Mall. The mall, located on 6th & Walnut, had a hotel, restaurant, retail stores, and Satin Wave Barber Shop. The mall fell on hard times and was forced to close. However Satin Wave flourished and
in 1981 the shop moved to 27th & Lisbon. It was there for
2 years before it moved to 4521 W. Burliegh for 18 years. Currently, we are located on 6446 W. Fond du lac Ave.

Ronnie started working for Flip as an apprentice at the Masterpiece Mall location and continued working with
him until 1988 when Flip died. The shop was passed
on to Ronald and he has operated Satin Wave Beauty
and Barber Shop ever since. Ten years after taking over Satin Wave, Ronnie opened a second location at 6446 W. Fond du lac Ave, which is a full service salon.

Ronnie attended Milwaukee’s West Division High School. He went to Milton College and graduated from MATC in 1976. Ronnie has taken advanced beauty & barber training at Dutley University in North Carolina. He has four boys. Ronnie enjoys basketball, baseball, and often referees little league baseball.*
